Manual Payment Method

The Manual Payment Method feature replaces Shopify’s default B2B net terms with flexible, metafield-driven options. By using company-specific metafields to control which payment methods display at checkout, it gives merchants precise control over how each customer pays.

Manual Payment Method
Details

Support offline or invoice-based payments while keeping Shopify as the system of record. Manual Payment Method adds a controlled way for approved customers to place orders without paying by card at checkout, such as pay on invoice, pay by check, ACH on file, or other agreed terms. This is critical for B2B accounts that cannot use cards or require internal payment workflows.

How It Works

Eligible customers are allowed to select a manual payment option at checkout based on account rules (for example company, tags, or terms status). The order is created in Shopify with the selected payment method and can trigger follow-up workflows for invoicing, payment collection, or ERP sync.

B2B Use Cases
  • Allow net terms style ordering for approved accounts
  • Offer pay on invoice or pay by check when cards are not permitted
  • Reduce friction for procurement-driven buyers
  • Keep payment terms consistent across ecommerce and sales channels
